What To Look For In A Course ? Home Study Courses Don't look for a home study course, you cannot learn any acupuncture at home with a book, no matter what anyone say's ! If you are considering doing one of these courses, please don't waste your time and money, as they are not worth the paper that they are written upon. Course Pre-requisite
It is part of the Schools pre-requisite to have an Anatomy & Physiology qualification. If you have no Anatomy /Physiology qualification a course can be arranged for you with an experienced tutor to attain the necessary standard required. A copy of your Anatomy /Physiology qualification is required before starting the course. Course Tutors Look for a course that has tutors with Cert.Ed., or NVQ teaching qualifications. Then at least you know you will be being taught correctly. It is supposedly mandatory for any Colleges or University tutors to have these qualifications or they cannot teach.
The next thing to look at is their clinical experience. Is your tutor a 'working practitioner' or have they been a working practitioner ? If they are not, then you will not benefit from what would / should have been their clinical experience as they will not have any clinical experience as such. It has to be said that this does happen quite a lot.
We know of one student, who within 1 month of passing examination, started teaching an acupuncture course !
Professional Bodies
At the end of your course, can your school / college offer you membership of a professional body that is relevant to your training ? What does this organisation do or can it do for you as a professional practitioner ?
Finally
Will you be satisfied and confident enough, that your training has been thorough enough for you to treat human beings, because that's what patients are !
You should consider all of these facts before you enrol on any course.
